Numerous events are held at Palazzo Gonzaga in Volta Mantovana, some of which have assumed particular international importance over the years, such as the National Exhibition of Passito and Meditation Wines, which gathers enthusiasts at each edition from all over Italy and beyond.
In June, Palazzo Gonzaga becomes the stage for Convivium Voluptatis, a banquet evoking Renaissance merrymaking in all its splendour. Dinner is served in the splendid setting of the Italian gardens of the sixteenth-century Palazzo Gonzaga, specially adorned and lit by fire for the occasion. There is music, dance, magical creatures, evocative lighting and visitations from the past, all leading up to the grand finale with stunning fireworks designed specially for the event.
Days of guided tastings of the finest selection of sweet wines from the Italian regions, immersed in the magical atmosphere of the sixteenth-century Palazzo Gonzaga, with its stables, frescoed rooms and Italian gardens. This is what is proposed by the National Exhibition of Passito and Meditation Wines, scheduled every year towards the end of April in Volta Mantovana.
The event now attracts not only experts in the sector, but thousands of enthusiasts wanting to discover some of the very best labels in Italy and many extraordinary and unexpected pairings with other aromas and flavours such as chocolate, cheeses, desserts and even cigars. In short, visitors are offered an intense 360-degree experience of the food and wine excellences of the Mantua area. In addition to tastings, led by Paolo Lauciani, Filippo Busato and the Italian Sommeliers Foundation, affiliated restaurants offer typical menus paired with local and passito wines, and the Exhibition Market set up for the occasion has stands allowing companies to present their products to the public.
Participating in the National Exhibition of Passito and Meditation Wines also presents a good opportunity to discover of this corner of the Lombardy Region, with the splendid city of Mantua and the vineyards of the Lower Garda Morainic Hills.
On the night of the Feast of Saint Lawrence, on the 10th of August, the gardens of Palazzo Gonzaga play host to an event named ‘Calici di Stelle’, or ‘Glasses of Stars’, an initiative promoted byCittà del Vino and Movimento del turismo del Vino and realised by the Municipality of Volta Mantovana and the association ‘Il Luppolo dei Gonzaga’.
‘Glasses of Stars’ is a national event organized every year in some of the most prestigious Italian squares. In Volta Mantovana, the initiative is interpreted as a sumptuous gala dinner, accompanied by the finest Morainic wines carefully curated by the Italian Sommeliers Foundation and skilfully paired with dishes and foods, such as, to name just a few, traditional De.Co. Capunsel, Grana Padano Dop, and Mantuan mustard.
Guests can access the gardens through the Guerrieri Gallery, where the welcome appetizer and the dinner are served. The menu features the participation of various local wineries. This convivial moment is generally enriched by dances and musical entertainment, making it one of the most magical experiences in the entire Virgilian area.
The International Summer School offers an intensive, advanced course in classical and contemporary dance that aims to give young dancers the opportunity to further their dance studies and perfect their techniques. The course is addressed to dancers who have been studying dance for at least 2 years and are between the ages of 9 and 20, and aims to give them the opportunity to work with directors of important internationally renowned academies.
The course also includes the possibility of holding auditions through which students can be selected and gain access to prestigious academies and scholarships.
For example, students have the exclusive opportunity to be selected by founders and directors Larissa and Gennadi Saveliev for direct access to the most important YAGP competition events in Europe, and the final in New York.
The International Summer School concludes at the end of August with a great gala evening. At the event, set in the Palazzo Gonzaga Gardens, world-famous professionals show off their talents together with all the students in choreographies performed for an audience of up to 700 guests.
Then, at the end of the evening, various scholarships and awards will be handed out.
